Frank Woolley was the first holder of the Walter Lawrence Trophy. His 63 minute century innings at Dover in 1934 enabled Kent to score 194 in 100 minutes and snatch an unlikely victory against Northamptonshire. The innings contained “dazzling stroke play all round the wicket” (Wisden).
